Yesterday the builder broke ground for the new addition.
Unfortunately, a nice young pecan tree had to be sacrificed. Hubby and the builder cut it down, and the wood will be used for barbecue wood and a little bit of furniture grade wood.
Here the digging has been completed.
The footings for the foundation and the porch piers are ready for concrete.
This is the site of the elevator pit.
The front porch will join up with the current front walkway.
Today the rebar and some forms were installed.
This was the view from my office window as the pumper truck was set up. The outrigger is only a couple of feet from the window.
This machine is HUGE! They had to pump the concrete OVER the house to the front porch footings. This is from the front...
and this is the back.
The concrete truck hooking up to the pumper truck. The pumper is an independent contractor, not part of the concrete company crew.
Here they are starting the pour.
We were stopping traffic with this machinery--wouldn't you want to stop and look?
The pumper operator controlled the boom with this remote control unit.
The builder (red shirt) supervised the pour.
Finishing the first pour, which completed the front pier footings and the foundation footing. The rest will be poured with the slab in a few days.
Quite an exciting day!
